Mobile marketing service Augme Technologies is buying advertising platform Hipcricket for USD44.5m. The deal – comprising USD6m in cash and USD38.5m in common stock – will see Hipcricket’s entire 50+ staff join Augme, but continue to work out of its old offices in Kirkland, Washington. Hipcricket focus on SMS, MMS and mobile website marketing solutions. The deal follows Augme’s acquisition of bar and QR-code specialists Jagtag for USD5.5m two weeks ago, and points to the company’s strategy of expanding its platform’s features. The company’s total revenue in 2011 was USD2.8m, but it expects to make USD16m in 2012.
