
Wireless location security provider Location Labshas acquired two mobile startups, Wirkle and Volly, to strengthen its team of mobile engineers and product managers. Wirkle is a profitable firm with a mobile platform for iPhone and Android that has powered applications such as OfficeDrop and VideoSurf, while Volley provides a group messaging service. Location Labs plans to strengthen investment in its suite of services with its newly-acquired manpower. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Location Labs is the maker of Safely, a wireless security programme that powers nearly a dozen Tier 1 wireless operator services. Safely is designed to help parents keep track of loved ones through mobile alerts and online activity monitoring. Location Labs has raised USD26m in funding from investors such as Draper Fisher Jurvetson, BlueRun Ventures and Intel Capital.
