Visa payWave To Join More Than 600 Metro Inc Grocery Stores

Visa PayWave rolled out by Metro Inc

Visa Canada and Metro Inc. today announced they are partnering to bring Visa payWave contactless payments to over 600 grocery stores in Ontario and Quebec. Beginning early next year, shoppers will be able to simply “wave and go” when making every day purchases at Metro, Metro Plus, Super C and Food Basics.

“Metro has continuously focused on providing value and innovation to our customers,” said Jacques Couture, Vice President Information Systems, Metro Inc. “We are thrilled to be bringing Visa payWave to our shoppers, who will no doubt appreciate the ability to shop quickly and conveniently at any of our grocery stores in Ontario and Quebec.”

“Visa payWave makes the shopping experience quicker and easier, while paving the way for upcoming innovations like mobile payments,” said Mike Bradley, Head of Products, Visa Canada. “We are proud to be partnering with Metro Inc. to bring the convenience and security of Visa payWave to their stores, ultimately helping make the customer shopping experience even better.”

Visa payWave enables consumers to use existing accounts for mobile payments and offers a platform for future innovations.  Contactless and mobile payments deliver speed and convenience to merchants and Visa cardholders while offering the built in security benefits inherent in chip technology. Visa payWave card-based and mobile-based transactions employ EMV chip technology, which uses a standard 128-bit encryption technology to securely store and encrypt confidential information. When a customer uses a Visa payWave terminal, the card or mobile device and the terminal exchange security information and the transaction is completed, all in less than one-third of a second. The cardholder does not need to swipe a card or let it out of their possession, keeping the transaction quick and secure.
