Los Angeles-based mobile developer nProgress has scored USD1.7m in angel funding from Activation Media Partners, Baroda Ventures, SV Angel and a raft of individual investors. The cash will be used to support the roll-out of ntro, a location-based social discovery app recently launched on Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android mobile operating system. Like existing products Sonar and Banjo, ntro allows users to connect with nearby people who share their interests, focusing on ease of use and privacy.
“Too often, the user has to do the heavy lifting, sorting through tons of matches that aren’t really that relevant, with people thousands of miles away,” says CEO Josh Resnick. “With ntro, our biggest focus is delivering meaningful new introductions to nearby people you really want to meet, based on the interests you care about most.”The app is currently being trialled in Los Angeles and San Francisco following smaller tests on university campuses, and nProgress hopes to expand across the US in the near future.
