Foursquare co-founder and CEO, Dennis Crowley, says that the increasing number of check-ins on the new Explore feature of the app is feeding back to the Radar location discovery tool, allowing better recommendations to be given for locations users may want to visit. Crowley says that increasingly developers are seeing the strengths of Foursquare’s API to be in location, because of the social context behind the data. “With a keyword and a user ID you can target services more accurately,” he says. “Successful services change user behaviour. Tweeting about going to the gym just wasn’t something people thought about doing a few years ago. Likewise, we’re now seeing users check in just to get the recommendations and not sharing it.” Crowley sees this social check-in element as attractive to third-party developers.
