Mobile ticketing startup Masabi pockets USD4m

London-based mobile developer Masabi, which produces the popularthetrainline.comapp, as well as proprietary ticketing apps for a number of UK train companies, has secured USD4m in growth funding from m8 Capital. The investment follows USD2m in Series A funding received from the same source last year, bringing the company’s total funding to USD6m, and will be used to ramp up development of its platform while securing new partnerships.

“We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from consumers using our mTicketing solutions, proving that mobile phones can revolutionise the way we travel,” says CEO Ben Whitaker. Aside, current partners include Virgin Trains, Cross Country Trains and Chiltern Railways, as well as First’s TransPennine and Hull services. Masabi’s mobile ticketing apps currently rely on digital barcodes, but the firm plans to integratenear-field communication into its products as the technology becomes more widely available.
