eBay is projected to reach USD8bn in mobile gross merchandise volume (GMV) in 2012, and PayPal to reach USD7bn in transactions, says CEO John Donahoe. The projections come after PayPal reached USD4bn in mobile payments in 2011, and eBay reached USD5bn in mobile GMV, doubling its 2012 numbers. eBay Mobile has seen 65m downloads of eBay’s mobile apps across platforms, and more than 890,000 eBay shoppers made their first eBay purchase through the company’s mobile apps in 2011, a 113% increase year on year.
eBay’s RedLaser barcode scanning app will also be adopted by Best Buy as a strategic partner.
