Catalan bank “la Caixa” and Samsung are launching a new banking application that allows customers to view their bank accounts, check balances and recent movements from their television using the remote control. The application will be compatible with Samsung Smart TV devices: televisions, Blu-ray players and Home Cinemas connected to the Internet. The system operates under the same security guarantees as Linea Abierta, la Caixa’s online banking platform, which can currently be accessed from computers, mobile phones and tablets. La Caixa claims this is Spain’s first banking application for TVs.
Earlier this month the Spanish bank also announced that it is collaborating with Visa to roll out a new contactless payments infrastructure in Barcelona over the course of the year. The project entails distributing over 1 million contactless cards, installing 500 contactless ATM’s and introducing 15,000 new POS to businesses.
