Osama Bedier, vice president of Google Wallet and Payments, has announced that Sprint Nextel, Google’s operator partner, will be rolling out “at least 10 additional phones” to support the Google Wallet this year. All the phones will be powered by Android and the only phone that has been disclosed as yet is the LG Viper.
The search giant is, according to Bedier, looking to expand the scope of its network and is currently in discussions with other operators, device manufacturers, banks, financial services and PoS technology vendors. Sprint is the only US carrier that supports Google’s Wallet service with the three other main carriers AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless collaborating together on the soon to be launched ISIS mobile wallet.
