NFC joint venture Isis is partnering with POS firms Verifone, Igenico and VivoTech as it prepares to help stores and retailers take payments from customers using its digital wallet service (view press release). Verifone develops point of sale hardware such as chip and pin devices, Igenico handles secure electronic payments and VivoTech focuses on NFC. The partnerships join the dots between Isis’ digital wallet, adding in-store hardware to process the transactions as the mobile payments infrastructure begins to take shape. Merchants will be able to become Isis enabled through implementing a combination of new payment acceptance systems, NFC add-on devices and remote software upgrades.
Scott Mulloy, chief technology officer at Isis says “todays’ announcement is an important step in enabling NFC technology adoption throughout the mobile commerce industry. It also validates the open platform approach being offering by Isis across multiple business sectors.”
