The ND1711 reader
The new solution, called the ND1711 reader, can read any of the various types of electronic identity credentials in use in Japan (view press release). This includes the fast growth market of contactless NFC-enabled cards and devices as well as traditional contact smart cards. The partnership has confirmed the first customer (name as yet undisclosed) for the new reader is a leading mobile phone retailer which has already purchased more than 20,000 of the devices.
Sakae Hikita, MD of Dai Nippon Printing says “the ability of the ND1711 to read both the contactless NFC chip and the contact IC chip is particularly exciting, as this broadens the device’s usefulness and security capabilities. The ND1711 has the opportunity to form the centrepiece of authentication for many types of applications in the Japanese market.”
