The solution is called Mobuyle and it enables retailers to take credit, debit and gift card payments from an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch (view press release). Heartland merchants can now take mobile payments by downloading the free app and purchasing the Mobuyle Encrypting Card Reader. The reader plugs into the phones audio jack and cards are swiped through it to make a transaction. Other features include the ability to void sales, process returns, settle batches, run reports, process mail/telephone order and e-commerce. Merchants can also take card payments in places where there is no phone reception or wifi coverage through Store and Forward functionality (SAF). Regarding security, cardholder payment data is AES encrypted on initiation of a transaction and never stored on the device.
Mike English, Heartland’s executive director of product development, says that “with mobile payments expected to reach $670 billion in transactions and 2.5 billion users globally by 2015 (according to Juniper Research), merchants need to fully engage with customers beyond the cash register…”
