PlayPhone buys mobile marketing network SocialHour for USD51.5m

Gaming site PlayPhone is buying mobile marketing network SocialHour in a stock-only worth USD51.5m. PlayPhone’s multiplayer app allows users on iOS, Android, Flash, Windows Phone 7 and HTML5 to communicate with and play with each other after signing in via Facebook Connect. It also allows them to pay with Playcredits, the company’s own virtual currency, through various payments options

Removed from the Facebook Platform in 2009 for deceptive ads, SocialHour no longer has a website running. However, PlayPhone says 22 SocialHour employees are now joining the company. “We’ve been following SocialHour for a while, and they have a very sophisticated program for marketing and lead generation on mobile devices,” PlayPhone CEO Ron Czerny tells VentureBeat.
