Bringing mobile payments and mobile ID cards to Sichuan province
Trunkbow International Holdings, a Chinese mobile payment solution provider, is extending its partnership with China Unicom through the deployment of a new terminal based MPS platform in Sichuan province (view press release). The platform was first implemented in the first quarter of this year and services are due to launch in the second or third quarter. Initially the two parties will co-market the platform to corporations, academic institutions and other such organisations as a SaaS and business automation tool with authentication and payment capabilities. Eventually the marketing campaign will be extended to brick and mortar retail stores for POS payment applications.
“Our primary goal for 2012 is to drive adoption of MPS among merchants and consumers, and we believe that as businesses and academic institutions increasingly enable the use of MPS-based mobile handsets as an electronic identification tool, it will encourage end-users to further simplify their lives by using phones as a method of payment as well,” said Trunkbow CEO Qiang Li
The platform will bring mobile payments and mobile ID cards to China Unicom’s 5.5 million subscribers in Sichuan province. Trunkbow will receive recurring revenue payments based on the percentage of monthly subscriber fees and transactions processed.
