Available to all banked customers in the UK
The service, launched in February, allows the transfer of funds via mobile number (view press release). Barclays claims the app was downloaded more than 400,000 times in its first eight weeks and is now popular with small businesses who are starting to use it as an alternative method of accepting payment.
Now that the service is available to all banked customers in the UK, Barclays claims it intends to add new uses and features to the app over the near term future such as joint account registrations and enhanced business functionality.
“Barclays Pingit is potentially a revolution in banking but this is just the beginning. We are listening to customer feedback and monitoring the demand for additional functionality so there’s a lot more to come over the next few months,” says Anthony Jenkins, chief executive of retail and business banking at Barclays.
