Groupon is buying mobile app Ditto.me for an undisclosed amount, with the deal seen as an ‘acquihire’ aimed at acquiring the startup’s staff, rather that its service. Launched a year ago, Ditto.me, which provides personalised recommendations on restaurants, movies and things to do with friends, will close down on April 30. “We can’t reveal what we’ll be working on at Groupon but we are excited to give it 100% – to enable this, we’ll be winding down Ditto,” says the company in a blog post.
Ditto was founded by Jyri Engestrom who previously launched Jaiku, a microblogging site that was Europe’s early answer to Twitter and was acquired by Google in 2007.
