MasterCard certifies smartphones for PayPass technology and introduces PayPass Ready

A new brand identifier for PayPass certification

The MasterCard certified NFC-enabled devices can now be used to make secure, contactless payments at PayPass merchant locations globally (view press release). The devices include: Blackberry Bold 9900/9790 and Curve 9360/9380, HTC One X, Intel Smartphone Reference Device, LG Viper 4G LTE, Optimus Elite, Nokia 603 and Lumia 610 NFC, Samsung Wave Y, Galaxy mini 2, S Advance and Nexus, Sony Xperia S, Xperia P and Xperia sola.

MasterCard is also introducing PayPass Ready, a new brand identifier for device manufacturers to use to signify that their NFC smartphones that have been tested and certified for PayPass technology. The identifier can be shown as a sticker on the device and in the packaging, marketing collateral and ads. Nokia and RIM are the first handset manufacturers to support the brand mark.

In the near future, millions of phones will ship with NFC technology embedded within them. The new PayPass Ready identifier will help consumers make informed device purchasing decisions by providing a visual mark that indicates devices are certified to make secure payments via the MasterCard PayPass network,” said MasterCard group executive of mobile, Mung Ki Woo.
