Crowdmob bags funding from Eduardo Saverin

Aiming to become a digital wallet

Crowdmob, a startup that combines mobile apps and products from local merchants, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Users can make a purchase with a credit card or PayPal and redeem it with their phone, confirmation number or SMS. San-Francisco-based Crowdmob offers such deals as popular mobile gaming app Angry Birds and a USD10 Starbucks gift card for USD9 combined. The startup’s long-term plan is to become a digital wallet. The deal comes as Saverin is dropping US citizenship ahead of Facebook IPO to allegedly save at least USD67 million in taxes.
