Expanding to thirty new countries
The expansion will enable merchants in around thirty countries to access Braintree’s payment platform for online and mobile commerce (view press release). The services will be offered in private beta over the next few months and will be officially rolled out in Q3 of this year. Braintree claims its expansion will help merchants outside of the US to grow their businesses by providing updated technology for online payments as opposed to the payment options provided by local processors which often use outdated legacy platforms.
“We’re answering the call of our customers and thousands of start-ups around the world for a truly global online and mobile payments solution,” said Braintree CEO, Bill Ready. “We will help e-commerce businesses and startups around the world launch, support, and scale successful businesses while giving our existing US customers new ways to expand overseas.”
Braintree currently processes around USD4 billion in credit card transactions each year, including USD1 billion in mobile payments.
