Vodafone has acquired a controlling stake in mobile coupon company, Vouchercloud, though the details of the deal have not been revealed. Bristol-based Vouchercloud offers smartphone users deals and discounts for businesses near them and uses a GPS system to guide them to the location of the deal.
Vodafone says it will expand Vouchercloud’s location-based service beyond the UK and Ireland where it currently operates. Vodafone plans to eventually integrate Vouchercloud into its other mobile commerce offerings.
In making this acquisition, the mobile network operator is likely to be hoping to keep up with its competitors that already offer deals, like O2 UK with its Priority Moments and Deutsche Telekom’s Groupon partnership earlier this year.
