New mobile card reader for the UK market
HSBC Merchant Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Global Payments Inc, is developing its own mobile card reader for the UK market in conjunction with eMerit Solutions Ltd. The new mobile payment product will allow merchants of all sizes to take card payments on the go using smart phone and tablet devices. The solution is compliant with EMV, PCI DSS and major card scheme standards and payments are processed via chip and PIN device. The solution will be made available to select merchants over the next few months and rolled out officially by the end of the year.
“The current economic climate has resulted in increased pressure on sole traders to retain loyal customers,” said Chris Davies, MD of HSBC Merchant Services. “By accepting credit, debit and gift card payments through smartphones and mobile devices, the eMerit device gives merchants the ability to process payments that will ultimately drive forward repeat business.”
