Visa Canada is launching a new TD Canada Trust Visa Debit card to offer Canadian consumers more choice, accessibility and payment functionality (view press release). TD customers will be able to shop online, over the phone and by mail in Canada, and in store at millions of locations outside of Canada, with funds being drawn directly from their bank accounts. Visa Debit’s enhanced features will enable one-step electronic debiting of funds when shopping online, internationally, over the phone or by mail, and offers the ability to make regular and recurring bill payments online.
Debit card holders will maintain the ability to withdraw cash from automated banking machines (ABMs) and make purchases from Canadian merchants with funds directly from their bank account. POS purchases will continue to be processed through the InteracDebit payments network.
“We’re pleased to be working with TD to introduce Visa Debit to their cardholders,” said Visa Canada’s Head of New Products, Sue Whitney. “Debit has traditionally been absent from both international point-of-sale and the eCommerce space. TD’s Visa Debit solution allows customers, including those who prefer to use debit or those who do not have access to a credit card, to shop online and in-person from merchants outside of Canada.”
