Developing, installing and supporting payment systems
VeriFone has signed a five year contract to become the vendor of installation and support for the District of Columbia Taxicab Commission (DCTC) (view press release). The contract is valued from between USD35 million and USD45 million including potential advertising revenue. VeriFone’s role will include developing, installing and supporting payment systems integrated with driver and passenger information tablets displays for the District’s taxis. The tablets will stream content from the VeriFone Digital Network including news, weather and local and national content provided by NBC4 and NBC Universal. The company will also provide electronic trip reporting, credit card payment processing and security alert activation features. The deal also includes a back office management information system providing the DCTC with automated trip reporting and GPS location services.
“This presents a rare opportunity to significantly enhance the driving experience of District citizens and visitors while improving operations for drivers,” said Mayor Vincent C. Gray. “The Taxicab Smart Meter System provides the riding public with new payment options and the opportunity to view digital content during trips. In addition, it improves manageability and accountability of the entire taxi fleet.”
