Isis mobile wallet to launch in September – Rumour

Mobile payments

Isis, the mobile payment joint venture backed by AT&T, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile USA, is to launch in September, reports StrategyEye. Speaking to Bloomberg, Verifone Systems’ CEO, Doug Bergeron, says that the service, which will enable consumers make purchases with their mobile phones, will reportedly be available in Austin and Salt Lake City initially, before becoming available to other parts of the US. Verifone is also partnering with Isis to provide payment terminals for the project.

The news comes after months of delays to Isis’ rollout, due in part to a change in strategy when the company decided to work with MasterCard and Visa rather than processing the payments through the carriers themselves. Isis will use NFC technology to allow users to tap their phones on cash registers to make payments, and will compete with services such as Google Wallet. Isis had originally planned to launch in the first half of 2012.
