Islington Council in London has re-selected PayByPhone as its cashless parking provider for the next three years (view press release). The phone payment service has been available in the Borough of Islington since 2008 and currently accounts for around 40% of its total parking income. The council claims that the popularity of the service has enabled it to secure substantial cost savings over the past three years. This includes an 85% reduction in the cost of cash collection, 51% reduction in maintenance and repair costs and the elimination of machine replacement costs. The council has also been able to remove or partially disable around 80 pay and display machines.
