EU to approve mobile operators’ payment venture – Rumour

Mobile payments service

A joint venture between mobile operators Vodafone, O2 and Everything Everywhere to set up a mobile payments service is likely to be approved. According to a Reuters report, EU regulators will give the scheme, dubbed Project Oscar, the go ahead to compete with rival services in the market, which includes Apple and Google. The project is designed to allow consumers to use their mobile devices to buy goods, instead of cash or cards. However, the project has come in for criticism from 3, the only mobile operator to be left out of the plans.
