Contactless payments without a bank or credit card
The contactless card launched by Raiffeisen Bank International AG (RBI) and Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich is proving popular among Austrians since its launch in July. The product dubbed CardMobile combines Visa Europe’s V PAY debit product and Cardis’ payment technology, allowing users to make contactless payments without a bank or credit card. Vienna-based RBI claims that initial experiences and feedback from both shoppers and retailers has been positive.
“Retailers are pleased that with CardMobile they can settle even very small amounts affordably,” said Gerald Kubu, head of card services at RBI. “Consumers, on the other hand, enjoy the speed and convenience of contactless payments, while they can monitor their purchases through the CardMobile payment app on their phone. People are using CardMobile on average three times a week for purchases with an average value of EUR4.20.”
RBI claims that following the success of CardMobile it plans to roll out further projects involving cards and mobile phones in the future.
