Focusing on design
Square is buying design agency, 80/20 in an undisclosed deal. The move demonstrates Square’s focus on design and provides a base in New York, where it has approximately 50,000 customers, as it appropriates 80/20’s HQ. The design firm has created user interfaces for corporate clients including Warner Brothers and Verizon, though it is not yet clear how Square plans to utilise it. A blog post on 80/20’s website simply claims that the firms will “reimagine and redesign how people communicate through commerce everyday”. The acquisition appears to focus on talent as well as acquiring a New York base, with 80/20 founded by ex-Apple and Adobe design execs.
