Contactless payments
MasterCard is installing its PayPass terminals in around 1000 stores including coffee stores, restaurants, cinemas and general retail outlets across the UAE (view press release). To successfully implement the contactless payment platform, MasterCard is working with Network International, an acquirer in the region.
PayPass allows consumers to tap their MasterCard PayPass enabled debit or credit and any other PayPass enabled device such as a smartphone on a reader to make payments. The technology eliminates the need to enter a PIN or use cash and coins, while cardholders do not need to hand their cards to a clerk or manually swipe through a reader.
