Mobile Scan & Go
Sainsbury’s, a chain of supermarkets in the UK, is piloting a new service which allows customers to scan items as they shop using their iPhone or Android and then pay without uploading their trolley or bags at the till. To use the service, customers must first download the Mobile Scan & Go app, and then register using their Nectar card and details of their local store. When they go shopping, they log in to the app with their Nectar card details and scan the ‘check in’ QR code at the front of the store.
Using the phone’s camera to scan the barcode on products as they place them in their trolley or bags, customers can track how much they have spent and see savings with offers and deals. When customers want to pay for their goods, they are asked to scan the ‘check out’ QR code located at the store’s self-scan or manned tills.
The scheme is being piloted at three of the supermarket’s stores in London.
