ING Group is testing a new way for consumers to use their mobile phones to authorise online transactions, extending the functionality of the Mobile MasterCard PayPass application to cover more areas, such as making payments through QR codes. The trial began in mid-October and will run till early 2013.
MasterCard hopes the trial will deliver a similar user experience in both the physical and digital world with a level of security similar to that of a regular EMV transaction.
Jorn Lambert, group head, emerging payments, Europe, MasterCard said that the trial “builds on our recently announced PayPass Wallet Services and our vision of delivering to consumers and merchants a secure, converged payments experience in-store, online or on a mobile device.”
According to Mark Buitenhek, global head of payments and cash management at ING Group, explains: “This innovative mobile payment product enables ING to offer customers a one-click-buy experience. The trial allows us to explore which new type of mobile payments products and technologies will meet our client’ need.”
