Expanding into Europe
SumUp is expanding its services into Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. The mobile point-of-sale operator is setting up sales offices in Milan, Madrid and Amsterdam, bringing the total number of markets it covers in Europe to seven, with its service already available in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Austria.
SumUp’s service allows merchants to accept debit and credit card payments through their smartphones which includes both Visa and MasterCard payments. The European mobile payments market is becoming increasingly competitive with companies such as iZettle and Payleven launching similar products and services, which is why SumUp wants to move “further and faster” in rolling out its service, according to CEO Daniel Klein.
In preparation for the expansion, its iOS and Android-based apps have been updated and optimised with the aim of making it easier for merchants to create and manage ‘shelves’ in the apps to make product and price selection easier when making a transaction.
