Launching smartphone payments solution
Rakuten has launched a smartphone payments solution in Japan. The new service, dubbed ‘Smartpay,’ includes a hardware component that the user plugs in to their headphone port on their smartphone. Users can download iOS or Android apps in order to accept payments via credit cards. The cards are swiped through the attached card reader. In addition, customers can sign their names on the smartphone display to complete the transaction. The firm takes a 4.9% transaction fee for each payment.
