Report: Chinese eCommerce sector up 66.5% In 2012

According to the China Network Information Centre, the Chinese eCommerce sector rose by 66.5% in 2012. Nevertheless, eCommerce purchases only accounted for 6.1% of total retail sales for consumer good in China.

Widespread adoption of mobile has been pointed out as the reason behind figures hitting USD190bn. Over half of Chinese consumers have accessed e-commerce channels over mobile instead of tradition desktop.

The research also shows the switch from desktop to mobile when considering over half of respondents use their mobile devices to shop online whilst still at home.  A further 36.8% have reported browsing on smartphones while commuting, at school and even at work.
