MasterCard launches MasterPass in New Zealand

MasterCard has announced that its payment technology, MasterPass is now available in New Zealand.

Consumers can conveniently and securely store MasterCard and other branded credit, debit and prepaid card information, address books and more, whilst removing the need to manually enter payment details. This simplifies the process of completing a transaction from any connected device, particularly those with smaller screens, and will allow consumers to discover an enhanced shopping experience.

“MasterPass is about providing consumers and businesses with convenience, accessibility and security,” said Peter Chisnall, MasterCard New Zealand Country Manager. “New Zealand consumers are financially and technologically savvy, and there is a real appetite in the market for a safe and efficient way to make digital payments. MasterPass is a crucial step in the evolution from plastic cards to digital wallets.”

Partners already signed up are excited about the opportunities this creates for their own business.

“Digital devices are giving customers more control over the transactional side of their banking and more ability to self-serve at a time and place that suits them,” said Shane Howell, Westpac Chief Product Officer. “MasterPass is an extension of this and we expect it will quickly become very popular with our customers. We’re very excited Westpac can be the first New Zealand bank to offer MasterPass and expect this to translate to a more secure and seamless online experience.”

David Galt, CEO, Webjet Australia & New Zealand said: “As a leading online travel agency, Webjet is committed to empowering customers with greater travel choice and convenience. The addition of MasterPass enhances our website on both of these fronts. MasterPass is simple and convenient across devices, and is a choice in payment options we believe customers will value.”
