Payments start-up Stripe launches in Australia and tests in three other countries

Stripe has announced it has launched in Australia and began testing in three Scandinavian countries.

Stripe started three years ago and is backed by a trio of PayPal co-founders; Stripe is a simple-to-use multi-currency service as an easy way for businesses to begin accepting payments from around the world. It takes a cut of several percentage points off transactions across its platform.

The company’s latest international expansion came when it struck a deal with Alipay to enable Chinese buyers to pay for purchases on the US service.

Stripe now operates in several countries, which included: Canada, Britain and Ireland, and it is also beta-testing in European countries such as Finland, Switzerland and now Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

Co-Founder and President of Stripe, John Collison, said: “Stripe’s mission is to grow Internet commerce by providing everything an online business needs to accept payments.”
