
Tesco has become the first supermarket in Malaysia to use CIMB Bank’s Plug n Pay mPOS system for online shoppers.
Customers of Tesco Online can now order goods for home delivery but pay for these on arrival using their debit or credit card. This works by having the Customer Delivery Assistant insert a Plug n Pay card reader into their mobile device, which takes the card payment through a linked mobile app. A transaction receipt is then sent to the customer via SMS or email.
Tesco Malaysia CEO Georg Fischer said of the partnership: “We’re very pleased to be able to provide the Plug n Pay by CIMB Bank payment method to all our Tesco Online customers where they can be assured of a safe and cashless transaction.”
“We are proud to partner with an industry leader like Tesco who believes in innovation to continuously bring a better shopping experience for their customers,” agreed Tengku Zafrul, CIMB Group’s acting group chief executive. “Plug n Pay essentially transforms smartphones and tablets that are an integral part of our daily lives into tools of commerce that are used to facilitate convenient and secured cashless transactions, adding on to the convenience that Tesco’s home delivery service brings for their customers.”
