Apple Pay reveals launch date at last

Apple’s much-anticipated mobile wallet will go live on Monday 20th October, with 500 more banks already signed up to the service, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced at a press conference.

Apple Pay will use a combination of NFC technology and Apple’s Touch ID sensor to allow customers to make in-store and online purchases with one tap of their phone. Adding payment cards is thought to be possible by using the in-built iPhone camera to take a photo of the user’s credit or debit card.

A leaked internal memo from pharmacy chain Walgreens initially suggested that Apple Pay would launch tomorrow, but Apple has now confirmed that it will instead be made available on Monday.
