Mobeewave secured $6.5 million in a Series A funding round led by SBT Venture Capital, the company announced yesterday, which will be used to support its growth worldwide and boost the rollout of various NFC payment acceptance product maps.
Launched in 2011, Mobeewave provides dongle-free NFC mobile payment terminal solutions which enable payment acceptance on smart devices. The Montreal-based company turns any NFC-enabled phone (or other smart device) into a secure contactless payment terminal (mobile POS) to receive payments from ApplePay, contactless cards or any NFC wallets without the use of any additional hardware.
SBT Venture Capital was joined by other angel investors and government investors in the round, the company said.
“The strategic investment from SBT VC as a FinTech-focus fund and financial-networks oriented actor will be key to our success, for example by supporting the simultaneous deployment of new markets”, said CEO and co-founder Benjamin du Haÿs.
