The Spanish lender, CaixaBank, becomes the first one in its country to create an application for the new Apple Watch.
The app tells users where the nearest ATMs and bank branches are by showing their locations on a map on the watch. It will provide details about the branches such as opening hours, contact numbers and services provided.
The app is now available to download on the Apple Store as well as the bank’s own CaixaMóvil Store.
CaixaBank has a history of being an early adopter of innovative tech. In fact, it was one of the world’s first bank to adopt wearable technology. The bank also has a banking app for the Sony Smartwatch 2. It has been downloaded over 5,000 times and won the 2014 The Banker award for Best innovation in delivery channels.
The bank clearly believes that mobile technology is the future of banking. It says it processes 120 million mobile transactions per month and that 33 per cent of those transactions are transfers of funds. Furthermore, the bank has released over 70 applications, which have been downloaded over 10 million times.
The bank is also aiming to integrate banking services into automobiles. At the 2015 Mobile World Congress it revealed a mobile application that works with Ford cards. The application is compatible with Ford Sync and AppLink software that is equipped in Ford cars with smart systems.
