Android Pay is gaining its first customers

Less than twenty-four hours after Google announced the launch of Android Pay, a number of the world’s biggest payment and technology companies are ready to implement the platform into its business.

For those who didn’t catch the I/O conference in San Francisco yesterday, Android Pay is a near-field communication (NFC) enabled service which is designed to give customers another way to pay for something other than using a plastic card or the more traditional method of notes and coins.

One of the first organisations to confirm the integration of Apple Pay into its systems is the Navy Federal Credit Union. The banking group serves all Department of Defence workers and Coast Guard’s in the United States and has more than $68 billion in assets.

‘‘Choice, simplicity and security are important to us and our members, and that’s exactly what Android Pay adds to our mobile offerings. A vast majority of our members are millennials who rely heavily on their mobile devices on a daily basis. Offering Android Pay makes payments even easier for our members,’’ stated Molly Steele, Navy Federal assistant vice president.

With this latest technology already gaining a number of users, Google is bound to close the gap between companies such as PayPal and Apple Pay.

Another organisation to announce the integration of Android Pay is payment technology group Ingenico. Its smart terminals will support Android Pay’s loyalty and offers functionality, which is used to track merchant loyalty program transactions and redeem coupons via NFC.

‘‘Ingenico Group strives to simplify payment for merchants and help them to accept multiple payment methods as soon as they’re made available. We are very happy that the majority of our merchant customers already have everything they need to accept Android Pay,’’ commented Greg Burch, vice president of mobility, business development & ISV relationships for Ingenico Group.

If you want to see Android Pay in action, Google has released a new video showing how the app can be used in everyday life.
