Samsung is set to offer a mobile payment function in one of its smartwatches in the second half of this year, as the South Korean firm attempts to rival the Apple Watch.
The news broke on Monday morning in South Korea’s Electronic Times. The news outlet cited unnamed sources for the story.
Samsung look to go into direct competition with Apple during the second half of the year. Both companies are using NFC technology for its smartwatches, with the Apple Watch already available to purchase.
The South Korean’s mobile payment service Samsung Pay will apparently be released to ‘‘select partners in July.’’ A full rollout of the service is expected later in the year, with Payment Eye reporting last week that Samsung Pay will not be able to use until September.
