Scotiabank has become the first bank in Canada to offer a mobile wallet for credit and debit cards on both Android and BlackBerry devices.
One year on from the launch of the wallet, Scotiabank unveiled a series of enhancements to the mobile payment service, My Mobile Wallet. They broaden the number of capable smartphone devices that can be used to access My Mobile Wallet and enable the use of both Scotiabank debit and credit cards.
The upgrade means that any customers using Android, Blackberry or Virgin Mobile amongst others, will now be able to tap their phones to pay for credit or debit card purchases at any Visa payWave and Interac Flash terminals.
There is also an improved loyalty feature that allows customers to store and use their Scene loyalty card to redeem points at various cinemas and Scene partners.
“Scotiabank is always looking for ways to enhance its customer experience, and is committed to providing innovative, safe and secure ways to make it even easier for customers to take care of their banking needs. My Mobile Wallet provides our customers with a secure and convenient way to pay for everyday purchases, just by tapping their phone at the checkout,” said Brian McCabe, vice president, Day-to-Day Banking at Scotiabank.
There are also improved security features such as the optional five digit wallet lock and customizable timer for wallet lock, contactless transaction amounts are up to limits typically under $100.
There is also a new option of a PIN request to verify identity and any change to My Mobile Wallet settings will require the customers to log themselves into the Scotiabank Mobile Banking app.
